I went out to the warehouse and measure the Ultra-Fab Locking Multi-Purpose Access Door for RVs # UF48-979010. It's going to require an opening approximately 6" wide by 6" tall due to the beveled in section that allows the door to sit flush in the bracket.
I recommend using some butyl tape # AL28FJ around inside of the mounting flange as well as some non-sag sealant # 344270341437-1 to prevent water from leaking in. view full answer...
The distance you are referring to on the SolidStep Manual Fold-Down Steps part # LC791572 is going to vary depending on where you install the mounting flange. However, the distance from the center of the latch that get installed inside the door frame to the outer end of the step is 10-1/2" which you can see in the attached photo. view full answer...
